Accessibility
This site is meant to work for everyone who needs to read it, including people using screen readers, keyboards, magnification or reduced-motion settings.

What we aim for
We build this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We have not commissioned an independent audit, so we are describing our target and our practice rather than claiming a certification.
What that means in practice
- Pages are built with semantic HTML and a logical heading order.
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, and focus is always visible.
- A “skip to main content” link is the first thing a keyboard or screen reader user reaches.
- Text and interface colours are chosen to meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios.
- Meaning is never carried by colour alone.
- Images carry alternative text. Scanned handwritten student feedback is published with a full typed transcription on the page, so it does not depend on being able to read handwriting or see the image at all.
- Every image is shown whole, never cropped to fit a box. Workbook pages and feedback scans can also be opened larger, by keyboard as well as by pointer, and closed with Escape.
- Form fields have real labels, clear required-field marking, plain-language error messages and status messages that are announced to screen readers.
- Text reflows without horizontal scrolling down to narrow phone widths and at increased browser zoom.
- Animation is limited to gentle fades, and is switched off entirely when your device asks for reduced motion.
- The site works with JavaScript switched off.
Known limitations
- Scanned feedback pages are photographs of handwriting. They cannot be made legible at every zoom level, which is why each one has a typed transcription beside it.
- The Level Up store runs on a separate platform that we do not control, so its accessibility is not covered by this statement.
- Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. If that service is slow or blocked, pages fall back to your system fonts, which changes the look but not the readability.
